How to Disable Tree Auto Scroll to Selected Item?

I have a large tree of Anchors that requires the browser window to
have a scroll bar. When a user clicks a link the window is scrolled
automatically to that tree item widget. I have tried everything I
could think of to disable this.

Unfortunately, all the other similar problems that I found like this
are about the expand/collapse causing an auto scroll. I don't have
that problem.

Things I have tried:
Overwriting the setFocus() of the Anchors and Tree
Overwriting the tree's ensureSelectedItemVisible()
Unsinking focus events
Clearing the Selected Item and a bunch more variations....

is it even possible to disable this auto-scroll?
