all tabs are loaded from the same origin (protocol://domain:port) (only the query string is different)
there is a test website (http://www.nmjenkins.com/intertab.html) where i checked if my browser (firefox 24) supports local storage. this works fine. (and also i got a not null response from Storage.getLocalStorageIfSupported).
i am using gwt 2.4 (but i checked the release notes and there were no changes to local storage implementation as far i could see)

This only works if both tabs have the same origin. Otherwise the same origin policy of browsers will prevent the event for security reasons. So make sure both tabs have the same protocol:://domain:port combination.Also keep in mind that some browsers do not provide storage if private browsing is used by the user. So you might consider using window.postMessage() instead of local storage for cross tab communication.-- J.
