Obviously not. You launched DevMode on "devmachine", so your VM should connect back to "devmachine": ?gwt.codesvr=devmachine:9997

As Jens told you in another thread, you have to launch DevMode with the -bindAddress argument, as it only listens on the loopback device by default.
