Converting an existing Java App into Java Script using GWT (Eclipse)

Hi,
my Problem is: I have some Java Applications on my HTML webpage that i did not write myslef and that are blocked by Java itself so they wont run. To avoid that from happening in the future i wanted to try to convert the App into Java script using GWT (Eclipse), as almost every Browser knows JS. After converting i wanted to export the javascript into a .js and call it up where the old java app was in the HTML code.

I read some Tutorials about GWT but never heard something about "existing Java Apps converting into Javascript". Can you help me and maybe gibe me some Tipps/Tricks/Tutorials or hints to search for? Is it even that simple or do you see any problems in this plan?

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Cheers, Marcel
