-- i do not understand actually, a gwt TextBox (com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.TextBox) is an input type=text and not a span,
maybe you are using some other library ?
The following pic shows the textBox in the standard sample application and as you can see the textbox not a span.
Do i miss something ?
