Howto drop menubar items from code

Hi,im creating a menubar with diferentes menuitems and submenus that
are created dynamically ( is not a static code).
I want to activate one item from the menubar (possible one nested in
one of the menubar submenus), how i do this via code? I tried with
dom.get().createClickEvent with no luck, example:

NativeEvent evt = Document.get().createClickEvent(1, 0, 0, 0, 0,
false, false, false, false);
menubaritemorsubmenu.getElement().dispatchEvent(evt);
