Simply launch Maven in debug and attach to the process (if you launch Maven from within Eclipse, then use "Debug as…" → "Maven" instead of "Run As…" → "Maven"; from the command-line, use mvnDebug instead of mvn and then attach the debugger to the process on port 8000).

That should work for both jetty:run and tomcat7:run (both do run in the Maven process, contrary to gwt:run which forks a new process)
