This just happened to me too... at a very bad time. I have a critical deadline fast-approaching and my development setup just stopped working thanks to this update.
I really like GWT and GAE, but my confidence in Google has been seriously shaken. I've spent an entire day just trying to get my development computer working again (not working yet). That's time not spent on my project.
