Well use what is available. On server use SimpleDateFormat / JodaTime and on client use GWT's DateTimeFormat.
-- If you are dealing with a shared class you have to use super-source and replace the server implementation with a GWT implementation for the browser. A shared, super-sourced DateUtils class can also be helpful.
