Search for a substring in a string ignoring accented characters

I cannot find a way, using  GWT's JRE emulation, to :

• search for a sub string in a String ignoring accented characters (diacritics)
• remove accented characters from a String
  

Any suggestion or  pointer to an external library offering any of these features would be greatly appreciated ?
